With a busy festive season on the horizon now is the perfect time to set aside a little me-time and indulge in some pre-Christmas pampering.
Why not call in to Sanctum Hair & Beauty and put yourself in the safe hands of their innovative stylists who can create a look that caters to your lifestyle – from hair cutting and styling to unique and bespoke hair colour formulation, as well as offering a customised beauty and spa experience.
We caught up with Jordan Kayes, the Owner and Director Stylist at Sanctum Hair & Beauty to find out more about their indulgent services and exciting new products
What can people expect from their visit to Sanctum Hair & Beauty?
I wanted Sanctum to be just what the name suggests – an oasis of calm where people can take time for themselves, let go of their worries and regain their balance.
In Sanctum you receive both a service and an experience - not only do we care for each guest that comes into the salon but we care about the environment, using Aveda products which are cruelty free and free from chemicals which is a strong value of mine.
We’re incredibly proud to be an official Aveda Lifestyle Salon – as a company Aveda is dedicated to environmental leadership and responsibility and giving back to society. I also love Aveda’s holistic approach to beauty and wellness and the little personal touches that enhance the salon experience for our clients.
Our growing team of stylists and beauty therapists have an authentic passion to make each one of our guests look and feel amazing; every time one of our clients steps through the door, our focus is on providing a luxurious experience from start to finish which helps them to reset their senses, relieve stress and feel soothed and refreshed.
As part of this we have our sensory Aveda Rituals of Renewal that are offered freely as part of our service – this includes a welcoming cup of comforting Aveda tea on arrival – a soothing 100% certified organic herbal infusion featuring licorice root and peppermint.
One of our Aveda artists then invites guests to experience a range of pure flower and plant aromatic oils to find the one that appeals to them the most – this includes Stressfix – a calming mix of lavender and clary sage, Shampure (Aveda’s signature aroma) with ylang-ylang, lavender and Abyssinian oil and Beautifying – a blend of lavender, citrus and rosemary.
A few drops of their preferred oil is added to a hot towel which is wrapped around their head after being shampooed. As part of the shampooing ritual our artists offer a complimentary scalp and shoulder massage beforehand and a stress-relieving hand and arm massage afterwards, all of which enhances our client’s relaxation and sense of well-being and leaves them feeling re-energised.
Leaving the salon you will feel like you were cared for and are balanced, ready to go about your life before coming back for another luxurious service experience that everyone deserves.
Having your hair cut or coloured can completely transform both how you look and how you feel - how do you put clients at ease?
I like to think that we achieve this via a combination of the atmosphere that we create in our salon and the skills of our stylists. Our hair team is trained in the latest cutting and colour techniques - whether you’re looking for a colour overhaul or would just like to make subtle changes, our stylists offer a totally customised service that is unique to every person.
We also exclusively use Aveda products for our colour, hairstyling and beauty, all of which contain pure flower and plant essences of the highest quality. Aveda colour uses plant power instead of petrochemicals, and is up to 96% naturally derived, cruelty free, organic and vegan and contains plant oils to provide exceptional condition, shine and fade resistant formulas and essentially damage free results.
We have three colour systems within Aveda which allows us to colour different hair types and textures from Caucasian hair to Asian and Afro-Caribbean hair types. Unlike pre-blended formulas, each system contains individual hair colour components that empower hair colourists to create specialised formulas for every guest – giving you the palette to create any shade you can imagine for hairdressers and their guests.
I’ve worked with many hair colour lines and none have come close to giving the results that Aveda hair colour have. Never have I had such a shiny blonde result where the hair was as healthy, conditioned and shiny until I used Aveda - it’s the only colour and product line I would use and recommend now. My guests never need to use silver shampoo to maintain their colour afterwards thanks to the customisation of the formula for each guest.
All new salon colour guests must have a patch test at least 48 hours before their hair colour appointment to check for allergy. Although our colour is gentle and up to 96% naturally derived some guests can still have an allergy. Guests are able to have a patch test when they come into salon to make an appointment or after they have had a hair cutting or blow dry service. The patch test lasts up to 6 months, and won’t have to be repeated if having regular hair colour services with us.
What sort of spa treatments can people enjoy at Sanctum?
Our therapists are always focused on providing a truly personalised experience based on your specific needs that day – from customised facials to fusion hot stone massages.
Our 90 minute stress-fix massage, £100, is a personal favourite of mine – it helps to reduce stress via a combination of Swedish massage, deep-tissue techniques, acupressure, reflexology and guided meditation – bliss!
The run up to Christmas can be hectic - does Sanctum Hair & Beauty offer any mini pamper treatments for people who are short on time?
Yes, at our Express Beauty Bar you’ll find a range of beauty services that can be enjoyed in 30 minutes or less. These treatments can be booked on their own or they’re also ideal for in between appointments, such as while your hair colour is processing.
One of our most popular express treatments at this time of year is the Vitamin C Glow Facial which offers the radiance benefits of a 30% glycolic peel without the associated redness and irritation. The treatment is £15 but it’s redeemable against a skin or body care purchase – a great way to try the range before you buy, it’s like getting a facial for free and is just the kind of pampering you need during the winter months!
The foot soak and massage for £15 is also in demand at the moment - it offers a tranquil interlude in the middle of the day, a great option for Christmas shoppers with tired feet.
The festive season is in full swing, how can Sanctum Hair & Beauty help make sure we’re all party-ready?
At Sanctum we have everything you need to be ready for the party season - from top to toe; if you need a chic up-do for a special evening why not book an appointment with our innovative Stylist Kirsty, who specialises in hair styling and putting hair up for events.
We offer Occasion Make-up Application for £45, Party Lashes for £20, a Shellac Manicure for £30 and a Shellac Pedicure for £35. We’ve also just launched Novolash eyelash extensions in our salon – eyelash extensions that come in both classic and American volume that allow you to extend length and improve fullness with minimum monthly maintenance.
If you prefer individual lash extension, that’s also an option and one that will last you four to five weeks, meaning that you can rock thicker and fuller lashes for the duration of the festive party season, without the need for mascara.
What new Aveda products should we keep an eye out for this season?
One of our most exciting new ranges is the Sap Moss Collection for hair which offers weightless hydration with no loss of volume. It contains larch tree sap and Icelandic moss as well as kukui, also known as Indian walnut, and coconut to help condition the hair. It’s great for people with curly, textured or dry hair as it de-tangles and tames frizz and it smells amazing - an earthy arboreal aroma that is balanced by floral notes of jasmine and luxe frankincense.
We’ve also just started stocking the gorgeous new Aveda Lip Gloss – 98% naturally derived vegan lip gloss that smooths, visibly plumps and provides lips with all-day moisture and shining colour. Colours include feisty Macqui Berry in rich plum and Hibiscus Dew – a pearlescent pink. There’s also Aveda Liquid Color Balm - a liquid lipstick with a rich cream finish – it comes in an array of shades including vibrant Maraschino, vampy Boysenberry and understated Desert Blossom.
Do you have any special offers that people should look out for?
We’ve got a fantastic promotion on at the moment – pre-book a blow dry in December and you’ll receive a complimentary add-on Instant Shine Treatment worth £15. This treatment lasts up to 24 washes and gives radiant shine and improves the condition of hair significantly. Many of our guests add this service into their hair cuts and blow dry services because the effects are instant. It contains a blend of castor, sunflower, jojoba and kukui oil.
In December if you plan ahead and pre-book a 60 or 90 minute facial or massage for January to help you wind down after the festive season you’ll receive a free blow dry and conditioning treatment worth up to £50.
We also have our ongoing Referral Offer – simply refer a friend or family member and you’ll both receive £20 off your next visit.
